Masters Gossip

Well done Bubba, that proves it wasn't a fluke the first time.

Nice to see Fred Couples,  Miguel Angel Jimenez and Bernhard Langer in the top ten.  proves there's life in us oldies yet!

More Masters gossip

The players have seemed surprised by how difficult Augusta National is playing this week.
Graeme McDowell had a putt on No. 15 on Thursday which he said was just ridiculous.
"It was one of the fastest putts I've ever seen," he said. "I hit it half as hard as I wanted and it still went 15 feet past."
Brandt Snedeker told interviewers: "The wind changed 15 times today, I watched Jamie (Donaldson) hit a pretty 8-iron into 12, and I hit one almost into Augusta Country Club, 30 yards over the green."
Rory McIlroy, after tiptoeing through the azaleas, said: It's just playing tough. This golf course is right on the edge, it's in perfect shape, and they got it exactly how they want it.  By Sunday the greens are going to be pretty dicey."

I love it when they have to work for it.

Masters Gossip

Rory McIlroy's shot at the par three fourth yesterday sailed 30 yds over the green and just missed Adam Scott, who was on the fifth tee.  He had to  sink a four foot putt at the 18th to make the cut, after visiting some picturesque and seldom- seen parts of the course on the 10th and 13th. He just made the cut, unlike Luke Donald, Graeme McDowell and Sergio Garcia, who are heading home.

Golf gossip at the Masters

Phil Mickelson, challenged during the practice round by a spectator, took a one dollar bet with him that he would sink a seven footer from just off the green.  He missed.  Saying that he never carries small bills Mickelson had to borrow the dollar from Jason Dufner's caddie to pay up.  He still ended up on the winning side as he and Rickie Fowler pocketed the winnings after beating Dufner and Dustin Johnson.

Golf Gossip The Masters

Great Britain has had it's Masters triumphs; Sandy Lyle (1988) Nick Faldo (89 & 90) Ian Woosnam (91) to name the most recent.  It would be great if roast beef and Yorkshire pudding were on the menu at the Champions dinner.  Still, Adam Scott's choice of juicy steak and fresh fruit Pavlova should be well received this year.

Golf gossip - The Masters

It must have been quite a thrill for those American youngsters to receive their gilt -edged invitation to the final of the Drive, chip & Putt competition, held today during Masters week.  The last 88 competitors out of 15,000 across America competed in age groups; 7-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15, one for boys, one for girls.   Age 15 with a plus two handicap, driving 253 yds. Phew!

Nice to see how Mum & Dad had drilled the etiquette into the majority too, like tipping their caps to the crowd and removing their caps to shake hands with the umpire at the end.

The proud Mum of the winner of the age 7-9 group could hardly hold her camera on the 18th (The 18th at Augusta!)  and when he sank his putt I'm sure there wasn't a dry eye round the green.  A great start to what promises to be a great week.

Golf Gossip

Now that Tiger Woods has announced he won't be attending the Masters, there will be a lot of speculation as to who will win the Green Jacket.  Based on  Tour winners so far this year, it's anybody's guess.
