If you’re a golfer you will have heard it before: Don’t buy your clubs off the rack. Have them custom fitted. But when K.J. Choi needed a new set of irons at the MemoriaL Tournament in Dublin, Ohio this week and with no tour equipment truck allowed on site he had to go shopping.
He started picking through iron sets at a branch of the Ohio Golf Galaxy Stores while the staff did a double take. He tested four different sets, three Mizuno and one Titleist, and found the swing weights to be off on all except one: the Mizuno MP-64 irons, which kept a D2 swing weight through the set.
That’s the set Choi is playing with this weekend. He shot even-par 72 in round 1. and 74 in round 2 and is currently one over on a course that is testing to say the least.
