The most interesting item of news this week (apart from my January Sale, check the website) was a TV programme from St. Andrews. In the old town you will find the only club- making workshop left in Scotland, with master craftsmen lovingly fashioning hickory clubs by hand as their ancestors have done for centuries. Testing them on a simulator showed that a golfer can hit a ball with one of these old wooden clubs as far as he can with the latest fairway woods and drivers. It would seem that it is the golfballs today that make all the difference; the improvement in clubs has not been as great as the manufacturers like to claim. I'm off to splash out on some Pro V1's.
